About the Journal
General information
The Revista de Estudios Empresariales was founded in 1987 by a group of academics at the former School of Business Studies, University of Jaén (Spain). Since then, its founders and successive governing bodies have strived to consolidate the Journal.
The Revista de Estudios Empresariales was re-founded in 2007. In this second era we are starting anew at the Journal with the aim of producing a Journal of high quality and prestige. We aim to ensure the high quality of the Journal in terms of its management and transparency and of the science it disseminates. To this end, we have increased the regularity of publication, brought in the double-blind review system, increased the number of external academics on the Editorial Board and in the editorial organisation, and strived to improve the transparency of the process, among other measures.
Likewise, another objective has been to maximise the dissemination of the Journal. The first step taken to achieve this goal has been to publish the Journal electronically from its first issue in the second era.
Focus and Scope
The Revista de Estudios Empresariales. Second Era, with ISSN 1988/9046, is a bi-annual publication. Until 2021, issues 1 and 2 were published in June and December, respectively. From 2022 onwards, the journal will be published in January and July.
The aim of the journal is to disseminate rigorous and scientific works of research on subjects relating to the firm and the economy in general. Thus the manuscripts sent to the Journal are subjected to double-blind review.
The Journal is published by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law at the University of Jaén (Spain). Its contents are interdisciplinary: each issue has a number of articles on a monographic subject together with other works on different subjects in the Tribune section. Finally, there is a section dedicated to book reviews.
The journal will not charge for the submission and publication of articles, nor for the editorial processing of articles for open access publication.

Submission and review process
Submission and review process at the Revista de Estudios Empresariales (Second Era)
1- In order to send a manuscript to the Journal, all its authors must register as authors in the Journal website (http://revistaselectronicas.ujaen.es/REE), including the ORCID code on a mandatory basis.
2- Once registered, the author(s) can send their manuscript via the Journal website (http://revistaselectronicas.ujaen.es/REE). We accept Word or rtf files in any version as long as the documents comply with the manuscript submission rules. When we receive an article we will acknowledge receipt.
3- The original work must be included in one of the three available sections:
- Special issue: if the original corresponds to a special issue of the journal. In this case, a letter must also be sent to the editor indicating the special issue to which it refers so that the paper can be assigned to the corresponding guest editor.
- Tribune: if the original is a work dedicated to any subject related to economics and business, which does not correspond to any special issue. In this case, the Journal will assign it to the topic editor in the subject of the work.
- EBEN Tribune: if the original is a work on the study and application of ethics in the field of organisations, business and economics.
- Critical notes and book reviews.
4- The guest editor or the editor will undertake an initial review of the article, checking the following points:
-
- that the subject area of the article is consistent with the editorial line of the Journal, and when the article is meant for publication in the monographic section, that it is consistent with the subject area of that section
- that the article complies with the formal norms of a scientific research article
- that the article makes a potentially important contribution to knowledge.
5- If the article does not fulfil all the above points, it will be immediately rejected, and the author(s) will be sent a report explaining the reasons for its rejection.
6- If the article does fulfil all the above points, the guest editor in the case of an article destined for the special issues, or the editor in the case of an article destined for Tribune, will ask two reviewers to review the article. The Journal will always try to ensure that both reviewers are reputed researchers in the same subject area as the article.
7- The reviewers will be sent the article in such a way that its authors remain anonymous, and they will be asked to inform the Journal whether they agree to carry out the review or not within seven calendar days. If a proposed reviewer declines to carry out the review, or does not respond within seven days, the editor will assign the task to another reviewer, giving them the same deadline to respond (7 days).
8- If the reviewer agrees to review the article, they should first register as a reviewer in the Journal website (http://revistaselectronicas.ujaen.es/REE). They will then be given one month to produce their review of the article. They must send their review to the Journal again via its website (http://revistaselectronicas.ujaen.es/REE).
9- Examining the recommendations and arguments laid out in the two reviews, the guest editor or editor must take one of the following decisions:
- accept the article for publication in its current form
- ask the author(s) to modify the article in accordance with the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, and publish the article after these modifications have been made
- ask the author(s) to modify the article in accordance with the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, and then return the article to the reviewers for another review after these modifications have been made
- reject the article
Whatever the decision, the guest editor or editor should produce a report of their editorial decision and send it to the manuscript author(s) along with the two anonymous reviews. If the Coordinator or editor asks the author(s) to make modifications to the article, they should include a deadline for this task in their report.
10- After receiving the modified article, the guest editor or editor should either release the final publishing report or send the article back to the reviewers, the process then continuing from point 8 onwards.
Guidelines for sending originals
1- Papers submitted for publication in the Revista de Estudios Empresariales. Segunda época must be original papers that have not been published or accepted for publication. Likewise, they may not be in the process of evaluation for publication in any other media.
2- In order to send originals to the journal, all authors must register on the journal's website (http://revistaselectronicas.ujaen.es/index.php/REE/user/register) as authors. Once registered, originals can be sent through the journal's web address http://revistaselectronicas.ujaen.es/index.php/REE/login. Word document formats or rtf format in any of its versions will be acceptable, as long as they comply with the rules for sending originals. Under no circumstances will documents be accepted in pdf format or any other similar format that makes future layout of the original difficult.
3- Each paper must be preceded by a first page containing the title, abstract (maximum 250 words), keywords (maximum 5) and two-digit JEL classification, all in both Spanish and English. Under no circumstances will papers that include the names of the authors on this first page be accepted. Furthermore, no references may be made in the text that would lead to the authorship of the article being revealed.
4- Articles should not exceed 25 pages, including tables, graphs, bibliography and appendices. Reviews or critical notes should not exceed 8 pages. The text should be typed single-spaced, with outer margins of 2.5 cm. on each side. The general font should be Time New Roman, size 12, normal. Title of the article, size 14 and capital letters. Main headings, size 12 and capital letters, and following headings in lower case.
5- Tables, charts, figures, etc., should not be inserted in the text, but at the end of the document, indicating their location in the text. They must be numbered consecutively, with a title and their respective sources. If necessary, the authors will be asked to send the original files of tables, figures, etc. However, these files should not be attached unless they have been requested.
6- Bibliographical references should be included at the end of the article in the Bibliography section, and should be structured according to updated APA standards. If the work has a DOI, this must include the DOI.
7- Bibliographical references appearing in the text or in the notes should be made citing the surname of the author(s) (in lower case) and the year and pages of reference (in brackets).
8- Notes should be numbered consecutively and should appear in the text, including their content at the foot of the page and single-spaced.
9- Authors are encouraged to include sex and gender considerations where relevant. Authors should use the terms sex (biological attribute) and gender (shaped by social and cultural circumstances) with care to avoid confusing the two terms. Article titles and/or abstracts should clearly indicate to which sex or sexes the study applies. It is also recommended to describe in the background whether sex and/or gender differences are to be expected; to report how sex and/or gender have been taken into account in the study design; to provide sex and/or gender disaggregated data, where appropriate; and to discuss the respective results.
