This study explores art education as a key component for the understanding, engagement, and sustainable development of artistic and cultural heritage from multiple perspectives, aligning with UNESCO’s definitions, which include tangible, natural, and intangible heritage. The proposal focuses on creating synergies between the didactics of visual arts in secondary and higher education, fostering in pre-university students the social and cultural awareness needed to value, protect, and preserve artistic and cultural heritage.
The main objective is to develop students’ creative thinking through the analysis of their environment and the identification of local needs. In addition, the project promotes the appreciation of artistic and cultural heritage, literary interpretation, and the application of scientific and technical knowledge to current problems.
The methodology employs an interdisciplinary and cross-level approach, integrating collaboration between university and secondary school teachers to facilitate meaningful and cooperative learning. Through hands-on activities based on the LOMLOE educational framework, students become active agents of their own learning, engaging with the social dynamics of their environment.
Projects such as “Comic-On” and “Heritage: Investigate, Discover, and Love” illustrate this proposal, where students develop diverse competencies through visual arts. These initiatives demonstrate that cooperation between educational institutions and external stakeholders fosters deep reflection on the value of cultural heritage, while students actively contribute to the improvement of their social and cultural environment.
