Abstract

One of the main cultural boundaries is time. The way to understand temporality by different cultures and societies has been studied since the beginning of social science. At present, the linear conception of time, characteristic of the Western view of the world from its colonial formation configure a dual hierarchy in the way we understand social life. This is closely
related to the formation of temporary dualities that create a speech to understand the “Other”. But, there are new ways of understanding and defining time that are having much impact in recent years in Andean countries. From hybridizations, resistances, integrations, assimilations and national struggles in the space between certain minorities and the “native” majority, arise discourses and practices that criticize the linear conception of modernity and progress, for example, from the sumak kawsay perspective in Ecuador
