Abstract

Martial arts are cultural products with their own ways of understanding the body and movement, that showing techniques designed to inflict bodily harm to the opponent, so the body is considered as a weapon. In this text we proceed from the taekwondo for exposing cultural aspects such as the characteristics of the technical repertoire, the influence of the
movements of animals in the techniques, the importance of morphology and qualities of the bodies in practice, or the meanings and values of the bodily pain. To do this, we adopt a
diachronic perspective with the idea of change and culture shock as background.
