Abstract

Societies have been erected in basis of specific forms of reciprocity and solidarity in terms to self-hood and otherness matrixes. The cognitive rules by means the politic discourse is
created are inextricably intertwined to a much broader matrix of social identity. Under such a context, the present paper explores and describes to what an extent the Spanish-ness and England-ness derived from ancient Latin and proto-German languages respectively paved the ways for the advent of different styles of conquest in America. Based on opposed discourse, whilst Spain, the more Romanized province, expropriated the lands of aborigines by means of military presence, England and France aimed to negotiate with aborigines practices of work, possession and of course social exclusion. The thesis of this work is that the matrices of
otherness, coined but evolved in the threshold of time, are of paramount importance to explain complex socio-cultural behaviour in our days
