Abstract

This paper explores the formation of households headed by women based on a theoretical proposal called kinscripts, which has been translated as family codes. This proposal refers to the family ideologies, norms and behaviors that influence
the course of life and includes three levels of analysis. The proposal also has been linked to the concept of gender, understood as the totality of social relations that govern, and played down the differences between men and women. These theoretical and methodological bases helped capture the trajectories of two women from Tamaulipas, Mexico, workers of different generations, who came to serve as heads of households.
