Abstract

This article aims to demonstrate that the social elites have historically provoked, in a consistent and conscious way, the use of deceit, deception and fear in order to create a model that could be suitable enough to serve their interests and that such a system, at the same time, could be acceptable by the others. This strategy does not seem to have diminished with the so called democratic systems, but the instruments and means have simply become more sophisticated.
This essay, through some examples of social paradigms, shows that the political, economic and religious power need that their addressees, subjects, prayers and clients be somehow cheated and fearful in a consistent way, since otherwise they could either threaten or challenge the survival of power. It is a question of achieving that the addressees of every power behave in a sufficiently foreseeable, predictable, homogeneous and systematic way, so that they are suitable of being organized and controlled. However, by way of deception and fear, people could be forced to behave in a way that could turn out to be counter-productive for their own interests. Moreover, the degree of freedom that those three powers tolerate appears always related and limited by their
goal of survival.
