Memories are the only way we have to project ourselves in time. Therefore, we usually resort to photography as a storehouse of memories to tell our story in the most diverse ways. Photography not only has an evocative power, but also reveals its usefulness as a documentary record. But it is not an objective record, but rather the means to find ourselves in each one of them, sometimes altering our own history.
However, photography is an excuse to make us aware of our search for identity as a vital need to define ourselves as individuals in a society. The creative process keeps us in a constant questioning that we believe we get to solve when we finish a work.
Album, the work of Ana Casas Broda, focuses on the awareness of her own creative process and elaborates, through photography, stores of memories that act as real time machines. Ana immerses herself in albums that contain a past, a nostalgic experience that she is unable to remember on her own. Later, Mestizo publishers collect it in a careful edition.
Researching about her has allowed us to reflect on the processes of searching for knowledge of our artistic language, on our bodily processes in photography and on the relationship we establish with the people we photograph.
