moved by the trend of orientalist fashion, Eduardo Toda brings to Spain the closest experience as an explorer in Egypt. His fundamental work, A través del Egipto, collects his experience traveling through the main cities of Egypt, accompanied by the illustrations made by the cartoonist José Riudavets, an exceptional example of the joint work between artistic practice and the narrated experience of a writer.
This article analyzes in the book A través del Egipto, if the cartoonist gets a graphic narrative that leads to the engraving’s scenario, being consistent with the text and photographs that the narrator put at his disposal. The drafter creates images that complement and even synthesize the content of the text, using resources to achieve a final purpose: that it be a truthful and attractive document without having ever been himself in Egypt.
