DEADLINE EXTENSION FOR PAPERS - Vol. 33 "Cutting Across Borders: Contemporary Gibraltarian Writing"

2026-01-06
This is a brief message to inform that the Call for Papers for our special issue of The Grove: Working Papers on English Studies, titled “Cutting Across Borders: Contemporary Gibraltarian Writing”  has been extended to 15 February 2026. This issue, guest-edited by Elena Seoane and Cristina Suárez-Gómez, seeks to explore the vibrant and evolving literary landscape of Gibraltar — a space shaped by rich histories, linguistic hybridity, and transnational connections. We welcome original research engaging with Llanito/Gibraltarian writing from interdisciplinary perspectives, including (but not limited to) literary studies, multilingualism, cultural studies, and postcolonial theory. Submissions may address, among other topics:
  • Representations of identity, hybridity, and multilingualism in Gibraltarian literature
  • The use of Llanito in contemporary literary texts
  • Border politics and borderland issues
  • Comparative studies between Gibraltarian and other borderland literatures
  • Narratives of migration, exile, and transnationalism
  • Colonial and postcolonial legacies in literary production
  • Emerging forms and innovations in the Gibraltar context
Articles (5,000–8,000 words, including all material) must be submitted online via our Submission portal. Please consult the author guidelines for details on formatting and submission requirements.   We look forward to your contributions and to expanding the conversation around Gibraltarian literature, borders, and identity.
