Abstract

“We need to improve the quality of life of the population” has become an increasingly common phrase in political discourse in Mexico over the past few decades. However, negative
evaluation results reveal that politicians do not have a clear understanding of what quality of life means. Instead they have been limited to using public funds to build infrastructure without taking into consideration the sentiment of individuals, their social and economic environment, or individual needs. In the first part I will discuss the background and dimensions in relation to quality of life. The second part presents an analysis of the notion of wellbeing, happiness and Subjective Well-Being. Finally, the last part includes the reflections of the scope and methodological limitations of research in this field.
