Abstract

From a positive assessment of the teaching opportunities that, through the singing, the poetic text linked to the music offers to the educational world, we analyze a teaching experience emerged in Granada after the initiative of the educator Andrés Manjón, professor the of the Granada University. In 1889, he created a network of primary schools for the working classes spreading throughout the Spanish territory, reaching over three hundred centers. Its remarkable educational system gave outmost importance to singing as a teaching resource.
With a key role played by the teaching trilogy Word, Intuition and Action, professor Manjóndeveloped a strong literary and musical career from the axiom: “To educate making and to
teach playing and delighting.” In this work, we present an approach and evaluation of the major contributions of this teaching experience, focused on the field of specific didactics and built on the fortunate combination of music and word found on the scholar singing.
