Around the subject “education for citizenship”: Balance of a controversy

Abstract

In our research we started thinking about the concept of citizenship and its impact on the objectives and competencies, shelling from the same origin of the controversy which is
related to the subject “Education for citizenship”, from its implantation in 2006 until the current academic year, when we are attending to its extinction. We continue to confront the
ideological principles that “fed” both of the “fear” and the controversial ... So that, we analyse the opposition to the subject as the hope for a more progressive social projection, through its contents with the reality of the subject through its characters. In addition to this situation, we offer the results of a qualitative survey made between teachers and students, which will put us in the current matter in the classroom. We will finish jotting down some conclusions about this and about a possible projection of future for the new subject which is called to replace it: “Citizenship and Constitutional Education”
